Whiteboard Wipeout

I stopped at office works on the way home from work to buy a whiteboard. It’s exciting that I need one for my first presentation on Friday evening. I picked what I wanted. It was heavy. I stood in line, bought it (along with 8 black permanent markers for 47 cents), and then hauled it out to the back of my car.  I was about to drive off when I recalled that I needed markers.  I went back in and bought white board markers and two more packs of those cheap black permanent markers (seriously, 47 cents!).  I got back to the car, checked my messages, made a call, then decided to call James to show off that I took it upon myself to buy a whiteboard…

Yup! he bought one this morning.

I then had to drag the whiteboard back into office works and ask for a refund.  Not cool!

Still, it is cool that I’m preparing for my first YB 12 presentation and that tomorrow night we have our first public seminar. I might just have my best year ever - despite whiteboard fiasco’s.

How would you like to have your best year ever?

I have a first class honours degree in psychology.  I LOVE psychology! And yet, I have been hiding away in research and doing a bit of teaching ever since I finished my honours. Why? Well, firstly, I really do enjoy research and teaching. I could stay in that field and be satisfied.

but secondly, clinical psychology is just not for me. I want to help people be their best. What about preventive health? Skills for life? Better individuals? Better communities? Self-Actualisation!

Anyway, there didn’t seem to be much work in that direction and I had a healthy research contract and a large family to feed.

Then my good friend Michael came to visit. He asked me why I don’t just put a sign over my door and start counselling or coaching. Good question! I looked into it and found out that even good life coaches who charge $300 a pop are unlikely to make more than $40K per year. Also, the life coaching training companies stalked me relentlessly as soon as I sniffed in their direction. I needed something different.

Thats when I came across YB12. That stands for Your Best Year Ever! Wow, they were looking for coaches and from what I could see they were professional and the program looked to be based on experience and sound psychological principles.

I went to the training and was sitting in front of two psychologists. This was a good sign. I want to be involved in the kind of business that attracts professional people who want to bring about change.

And the best part about it…   Every person who becomes a client gets to nominate a teenager for the teen potential program.  Wow! I love Social entrepreneurship!

So now I’m a YB12 Coach. I have an email address: l.wilson@yb12.com and business cards. I absolutely CAN’T WAIT to help people change their lives. Heck, I can’t wait to see what my 12 months will bring!
